What Would You Do For 50 Cents?

Around here, going to town is an event. It only happens about twice a month, but it is highly anticipated by the kids. If we go when Dad's home we usually stop for Mexican food and if he is working, its Chinese.

Tonight was Chinese, so we loaded the car beyond max capacity and took off to the big city. We started out at Walmart, beings that it's the only store in town that has decent groceries, and ended up at the Chinese buffet.

For several years, my friend has paid each of the kids a quarter to try a new item on the buffet. This started when the kids were small and made the best faces, but slowly ended as there was nothing new to try. Tonight the girls wanted the toys out of the gumball machines in the lobby. My friend and I were not going to miss out on the opportunity to get a good laugh in, so we offered them 50 cents to try a piece of sushi with wasabi!
My son went to the food bar and got a plate and the girls of course were asking, "Do we have to eat the whole thing? How much wasabi do we have to eat? Is it nasty?" We agreed they only had to eat one good bite. My oldest and most money-wise, immediately grabbed her sushi covered it in wasabi paste and ate it. She was in such a hurry to get her money she just made a face, took a drink and took off to the lobby to collect her prize. My friend's daughter was next. She is the youngest and very prissy. She had her bite ready and it was covered in the wasabi! That poor child took a big bite, her eyes got big, her face turned red and she grabbed her drink. Choking she ran over to get her quarters and off to the lobby she went. Then it was my younger daughters turn. She didn't even get it down! As soon as the wasabi made itself known to her tastebuds, she was begging to spit it out! We did let her, but we were rolling. Luckily it was late and there were only a few people in the dining room. My friend and I could barely breathe from laughing so hard as the two younger girls could still be heard gagging and choking in the lobby, but they got their money and their gumball machine toys
